A screw is a cylindrical rod with many spiral threads notched throughout its cylinder. Screws are divided into the head and the shank. On the shank, the many threads can be found. The head is always larger in diameter than the shank of the screw and it has a formation to it in a cross or a flat line to make it easy to be driven or turned. The body of the screw ends in a tip. Nuts and bolts usually come in pairs since unlike the screws; the diameter of the end of the bolt is of the same as the shank and therefore, a nut is put at the end to fasten it securely. In essence, the hex bolts are inserted through holes of assembled parts and fastened with the nuts.

There are a number of hex bolts and nuts that encompass this family of machine fasteners: Carriage bolts, expansion bolts, square head bolts, J bolts and even U bolts. The corresponding nuts that for a specific bolt are called cap nuts, spring nuts, hexagonal nuts or in short hex nuts. This is the most common shape that nuts and bolts take thus, the hex nuts and bolts. The sides are not so much a design on the bolt but it gives a good granularity of angles for a tool to approach from as in the case of what we would run into in installing hex bolts and nuts in tight spots and corners. This hardware is also known as the hex cap and the hex cap screw and can also be referred to as machine bolts.

The material they're made of is usually metric and stainless steel and there are different grades that can be purchased depending on the purpose. The measurements vary from grade 5 US, grade 8 SAE fine, grade 8 USS coarse, and the hex cap screws can be 10.9 or 8.8. These hex nuts and bolts have never been easier to obtain than in the world today. It can be found in a hardware store, industrial warehouse and over the internet. For any material, item or gadget related to the industry field, bolts and nuts come in as very handy things and increase the efficiency of a machine.

Only a few distinguishing markers can be found between a screw and a bolt. Depending on the size, a small screw is referred to as a screw while the larger ones are actually the bolts. Screws or hex nuts or bolts, all are part of the simple machines group, used singly or in pairs they make our things most sturdy and fastened more securely to its pieces.
