Teen Suicide Rate Climbs In Russia According To Forensic Psychology Institute

Teenage suicide is terrible tragedy, and it can strike anywhere and for a variety of different reasons

. The problem is prevalent in the United States, but it happens in all countries around the world, and the phenomenon seems to be striking Russia particularly hard lately. Recently, a teenager in Russia committed suicide when told he would not be allowed on the Internet to surf. This was the fourth incident such as this in a period of just ten days.

The boy hanged himself, and while suicide might seem like an extreme solution to not being allowed on the Internet, one has to dig deeper to see what it is that could drive a teen to suicide. The boy, according to those who knew him, was at a high risk of suicide. He had few friends in real life, and the web seemed to be an outlet. Recent bans from social networks online served to push him closer to the edge. The final banning from the Internet was what brought him past the tipping point.

Other suicides in recent days have shocked and stunned Russians. Two 14-year-old girls committed suicide by jumping off a 14-story building. They had skipped school for two weeks and feared repercussions from their parents. Suicide in this case again, seems like an extreme solution for the actual problem, but it is impossible for those who dont know the children to understand what else was happening in their lives that could have caused them to take this route.

Across the nation of Russia, more and more children are taking their lives. Its not a problem isolated to Russia, but it is something that psychologists are watching closely in the country. Hopefully, school administrators and parents are paying closer attention to teens and are looking for any signs of problems. In some cases, it is going to be impossible to see these problems. Talking with children and trying to understand the issues, problems, and fears they have is something that all parents should do. Forensic psychologists arent going to be of help until after the fact. Parents are key in stopping the suicidal thoughts in the first place.

Children who are at risk, even when those who are teaching the children or who are around the children and see these rises, dont often get the help they need. According to one of the heads of the Serbsky Research Institute for Forensic Psychology, the teen suicide rate in Russia is the sixth highest in the world and the highest in Europe.
