The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Includes An Impressive Range Of Features by:Chris Westley

Recently announced by Sony Ericsson and due for release in the second quarter of 2010

, the Xperia X10 Mini offers the same impressive functionality as the rest of the range, but has been reduced in size.

Measuring only 83x50x16mm and weighing in at just 88 grams, the small handset still packs a powerful punch. The 2.55 inch TFT capacitive touch screen displays 16 million colours at 240x320 pixels offering great display quality for such a small phone. The screen is manufactured from scratch resistant materials protecting it from everyday wear and tear. An accelerometer is also built in which rotates the on screen image according to the orientation of the phone.

Ringtones can be customised thanks to the ability to utilize MP3 files as ringtones, which works alongside vibration, alerting users to incoming calls and messages. For communicating hands free, a speakerphone is built in, as is a 3.5mm audio jack for the use of hands free headsets and earphones for listening to music on the go.

For storage of data such as media files, 128MB of internal memory is installed. A microSD slot comes equipped with a pre-installed 2GB memory card, but this can be upgraded to 16GB offering ample storage for media files.

A selection of connectivity options means the handset is always connected in all but the most remote areas. Class 10 GPRS and class 10 EDGE are the initial means of network connectivity. If in an area covered by 3G, HSDPA and HSUPA provide a connection. For a faster internet connection, the signal provided by local wireless internet routers can be utilized via Wi-Fi connectivity. Bluetooth v2.1 provides a convenient method of sharing files with other phones in the same area. The final connectivity option is micro USB v2.0 which connects the handset to a computer. This means that files and data can easily be transferred and backed up.

Several different formats of music and video files are supported by the Xperia X10 Mini's media player. Further entertainment options include games and a stereo FM radio player. As well as standard extra features such as a document viewer, voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input the handset offers applications which allow direct access to sites such as Google, and YouTube.

The digital camera provides 5 mega pixels which is impressive for a phone of such a small size. It operates at a pixel resolution of 2560x1920 pixels allowing photos of high quality to be taken. Autofocus and LED flash simplify the task of taking photos, whilst the ability to shoot video offers an alternative to still images. Video is shot in VGA quality at 30fps.

Despite it's small size, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 certainly remains a powerful phone. The renowned Android operating system is coupled with a powerful 600MHz processor, making the user interface fast and smooth.
