The Us Continues To Build Allies In South East Asia
The United States is faced with a golden opportunity which has become apparent in the aftermath of the Chinese military buildup
. All of the smaller Asian nations in the region are fearful of Chinese powers and intentions. They have began to reach out to he United States because they need a superpower to offset the power of the Chinese Military.
President Barack Obama announced on Friday a major new diplomatic initiative responding to positive changes in Burma, saying he is sending Secretary of State Hillary Clinton there next month. This is not because of China but is is one of many new initiatives in the region. The US has drawn closer to other countries also. If our State Department handles the situation correctly the US can score a major victory in the relationships arena.
The Phillipines have reached out to the US along with Vietnam and several of the other countries in the region now that the Chinese have become more and more aggressive in their military incursions into the territories claimed by other countries. The Chinese have even begun to claim territories that are many miles away from their homeland.
Mr. Obama said they reviewed progress in Burma, where the government -- though still heavily influenced by the military -- has begun opening the country and loosening restrictions. Secretary Clinton will go to Rangoon and Naypyidaw, the new capital constructed by Burma's military, for discussions to explore possible further progress in relations between the two countries. This is an obvious advance in the relationship between the two countries. She will be the first American secretary of state to travel to the country in over half a century and she will explore whether the United States can empower a positive transition in Burma, and begin a new chapter between our countries," he said.
The United States has also begun an initiative with Australia where they will preposition military equipment there along with personnel. The initiative recognizes that the Chinese are building up their military and do intend to use it to expand their territory and influence around the world. I believe that their plan is to become the worlds foremost superpower. They will do so by force if necessary. The thing that the rest of us need to learn about them is that they wont hesitate to use force if they think that they are stronger. Once they get to the position where they can overpower anyone who opposes them they wont hesitate to do so.
They have been developing weapons which are designed to limit the US ability to intervene in case of war and weapons designed to destroy or neutralize US Aircraft Carriers. They insist that these weapons are defensive in nature which just isnt true. The agenda is obvious. They plan on expanding in the region but they have to be able to counter US military actions if they are to be successful at doing so.
They have an enormous population which is growing rapidly. They need the resources of the South China Sea to support their enormous economic base and will do whatever they have to do to get control of those resources.
