Traveling anywhere cannot be free of dangers. There are always cases of accidents, theft, murder, mugging, and even terrorist attacks. Since the time terrorists decided to voice out their condemnation of the way other people like to live their lives, it is no longer very safe to go anywhere. So when you are traveling to Spain, it is best to get familiar with what is going on with the country by going online to the Department of Foreign Affairs, specifically travel advisories to Spain. It is always best to register your contact details with their Foreign Affairs Department, even if the travel is only for a few hours. The point of this precaution is that when anything goes wrong, you can be immediately contacted or you can be located immediately.

There are a lot of complaints from travelers that when something wrong happens this Department is slow to mobilize. Well, one of the reasons why they can't move fast enough is because they did not even know that a particular person traveled at a particular time to Spain. True, they have the records, but they cannot keep track of the thousands going in and out of Spain every single minute of the day.

At least if you register your destination and contact details with them they become aware of the travel plans by simply pulling out the records. If you are using a rental to travel around the country it is also best to inform the car rental company where you are every time that you make a stop. Advise the DFA that you are traveling with a particular rental and the two can unite their forces if there is an unfortunate event.

It is always advised that when traveling you has to inform people of your whereabouts and that skipping out on the registration can actually mean life or death. Even in the US it is best to inform the police of your travel plans. This way they can make certain that you are monitored all the time. This is the same thing with the DFA and the rental company. Knowing where you are at a particular time will not only lower the time factor but it would make it easier for them to narrow down on you location.

Remember that if it is difficult enough to travel in the US, it is just as difficult in a foreign country which you are not familiar with. Make sure that when you travel you have your identification papers with you all the time and that your cell phone is loaded and charged. If need be, purchase a car cell phone charger.
