There are two sources of indoor lighting. One is natural light and the other is artificial light. Natural light comes from the sun while artificial light comes from the lighting fixtures that we currently use today.
Natural light, as previously mentioned, comes from the sun. It can be directed into the interior confines of the home to provide the necessary indoor lighting it needs. There are several ways natural light can be brought in towards the home. You can open up your windows so the light outdoors can flood into the home. By clever positioning of windows, we can allow more light coming into the room. Another way to get natural light to stream in is through the use of frosted tiles or glass panels in the wall. Unlike windows, these are fixed structures that can't be opened and serves more like a thin wall. The best way so far to use natural light is through the installation of sky lights. They are integrated into the roof of the house and can provide maximum light into the interior areas of the home much like a typical ceiling light unit.
A big disadvantage of natural lighting, however, is that they can only be used during the day. But considering the big savings one can get from not having to operate the electric lights indoors during the day, the natural lighting offers a huge help to the homeowners.
Artificial lighting uses the lighting fixtures that we see in our homes today. They are typically operated through electricity but we can also incorporate into our indoor lighting some of the battery-operated ones. Artificial indoor lights include the use of fluorescent lamps and incandescent bulbs as well as the use of the innovative LED lighting units. These types of lights are easy and convenient to use. They are mostly utilized at night and can also be used during the day if the weather outside becomes dark and gloomy.
