Victoria's Main Attractions And Its Canadian Charm

Victoria is situated on Vancouver Island in the southern area of Canada

. While it does not have a large population - at least not if compared with other great cities in the world - Victoria grows each year as the favorable climate permits. Many choose Victoria as a destination for their retirement spot, but tourists and travelers choose it as well.

Over three hundred years ago, the area was populated by the Salish, but about 150 years later Victoria became a great port where gold was traded.

The city is well known for its many festivals and competitions, the most popular of which is the Swift Sure International Yacht Race. Sailing enthusiasts come here every year to engage in the competition, but they are not the only ones that travel to Victoria for this reason as many tourists enjoy the festivities as well. Ice skating competitions and many other games are held in Victoria so there is little wonder that the city is an attractive destination.

Victoria is not only based on tourism and competitions as many pharmaceutical corporations have their headquarters here. Administration and finance are common sources of employment as the city hosts important administrative buildings.

Because of its warm climate, the quantity of snow that falls here during the winter is quite minimal. Many travelers come here because of the bearable winter months when you can still enjoy walking around the city comfortably without the need to bundle up.

Inner Harbor is one of the many places to visit while in Victoria. It is impressive to see and taste the many gorgeous restaurants' palatable dishes with great bars all around. If you want to enjoy the wildlife present around Victoria there is no better way to do it then embarking on a boat tour along the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Among the historical sites that you may wish to see while in Victoria you will find Emily Carr House, Bastion Square, and Craigdarroch Castle.

The city is also reputed for having some really amazing gardens and parks, which are populated all the time by people wishing to take a walk and relax. The most popular ones are Beacon Hill Park and Butchart Gardens, where there are many strange plants and flowers. Whether you want to enjoy a picnic in the afternoon or just take a pleasant stroll, there is no better place to do so than in one of the many parks in Victoria. For those that like a day at the beach with their families, the West Shore is not far away and it offers a few kilometers of shoreline where you can indulge in activities like waterskiing, or fishing, or snorkeling. Here you will also find a golf resort that houses a nice spa for those that do not mind a little splurging while on vacation.

You can get to Victoria by plane easily, as the International Airport is an important hub where many flights go in and out.
