Vision Improvement Exercises: Natural Vision Improvement
Vision Improvement Exercises: Natural Vision Improvement
After years of dealing with glasses, contacts, new prescriptions, and other costs and hassles associated with traditional vision correction, many people look into natural vision improvement exercises to get better eyesight. But do these methods really work?
Originally proposed way back in the late 1800s, natural vision improvement has had it supporters and detractors over the years. It was pioneered by man named Dr. William Bates, and this method is generally known as the Bates Method. All natural vision programs are variations of the original teachings of Dr. Bates. He theorized that sight problems were the result of habitual strain on the eyes, and that by removing the strain the eye would heal itself.
There are 2 general steps to this relaxation and usage. Relaxation involves palming; covering the eyes with the palms of the hand, and concentrating on relaxing the eyes muscles and the total blackness you then see. Stay in this state for a few moments to get used to the feeling, and then open your eyes and move them back and forth while keeping that feeling of relaxation. If you notice tension coming back, just go back to palming for a few minutes. You can also try focusing on things of different distances away, and noticing things of a certain color over the course of a day.
A very important component of vision improvement exercises is a belief that they will work. There was a study published in Discovery News in April of 2010 that stated:
Eyesight markedly improved when people were experimentally induced to believe that they could see especially well, Langer and her colleagues report in the April Psychological Science. Such expectations actually enhanced visual clarity, rather than simply making volunteers more alert or motivated to focus on objects, they assert.
And Further on:
20 men and women who saw a reversed eye chart -- arranged so that letters became progressively larger further down the chart, with a giant "E" at the bottom -- accurately reported more letters from the smallest two lines than they did when shown a traditional eye chart with the big letters on top.
Given this information, it appears it that it is the belief that your vision will improve, as opposed to the effects of any particular exercise, that will ultimately determine the efficacy of vision improvement exercises. Yet you still need the exercises, as they form the basis on which that belief is founded.
They do work. For me, I noticed slight but tangible results within a few days, leading to an internal thought of "I can see more clearly! This does work!" This positive belief feedback loop made the results more and more striking, and ultimately lead to my correcting my vision problems. And if you have faith, you can correct your vision naturally too.
