What You Can Expect On The Chemistry Clep Test

After youve decided to take CLEP exams to earn college credit without having to take a college course, the next thing you need to do is to study

. Youll want to study for the CLEP test right up until your exam date arrives. If you know in advance what information will be on the CLEP test, youll be more prepared to pass the CLEP exam and earn college credit for doing so. And, if youve elected to take the CLEP test for Chemistry instead of sitting through months of Chemistry classes, heres what youll need to study to be prepared to pass the CLEP test for Chemistry.

The CLEP test for Chemistry will evaluate whether or not you possess a knowledge of chemistry equivalent to a student who took a semester long general chemistry course. You will be required to prove you understand the states of matter and their structures, as well as thermodynamics, equilibrium, descriptive and experimental chemistry, equations and stoichiometry, and reaction types. You will also have to prove that you know how to apply all of this material to problems that are both new and unfamiliar. For the Chemistry CLEP exam, you will be given a scientific calculator and a copy of the periodic table to help you.

The Chemistry CLEP exam has 75 questions on it and youre allowed 90 minutes to answer all the questions. Some of the 75 questions on the Chemistry CLEP exam are actually pretest questions that arent scored as part of the exam. But, you wont be told which questions are pretest questions so its important to answer all the questions on the Chemistry CLEP test as well as you can. And, the time you spend going through the available tutorials and giving your personal information isnt counted towards the 90 minutes youre given to complete the Chemistry CLEP test.

Required Knowledge and Skills

The questions on the Chemistry CLEP test will make sure youre proficient in one or more of the following areas.

Recall - For the Chemistry CLEP test, youll need to be able to show that you can remember specific facts, youll need to demonstrate that you have knowledge of information related to Chemistry, and youll have to prove that youre familiar with Chemistry terminology.

Application - To pass the Chemistry CLEP tests, youll also have to prove your understanding of certain concepts and show that you can reconstruct information into other equal terminology. Youll also need to show that you can apply your knowledge of Chemistry to both unfamiliar and practical situations and that you know how to use math to solve certain chemistry problems.

Interpretations - infer and deduce from data available and integrate information to form conclusions; recognize unstated assumptions. The Chemistry CLEP test will also require you to show that you know how to deduce and infer information from available data and that you know how to integrate information to make your own conclusions. Youll also need to be able to prove that you can recognize assumptions even though those assumptions are not stated.

So, if science is one of your strong areas and youd like to be exempt from taking a years worth of college chemistry classes, taking the CLEP test for Chemistry might be a wise decision for you.
