Why Is Socialization Important To Dogs?
If your dog is anxious or really aggressive upon seeing new people in your house
or he keeps on chasing animals that cross your front yard, then there is a need to socialize him. Socialization helps your dog know how to behave properly when exposed to new situations. The following paragraphs will explain more about the importance of socialization for dogs and how to do it.
Dogs learn how to properly behave through socialization. If you subject him to new situation, he'll learn to respond and behave properly to the situation itself or when he sees other people and other animals. When your pet is well-socialized he will tend to be less aggressive upon seeing new people, new animals or when subjected to new situations.
It is important to socialize your pet constantly so that he will become fully adjusted to different situations. It's best to make your puppy attend a socialization class because it is much easier for them to learn at this stage. During this stage they are curious and eager to learn. Socialization class provide a great venue for your puppy to be exposed to different animals and adjust to them.
Dogs may unlearn and forget things that they've learned in their socialization class if they are constantly under stress due to always changing environment hence it is important to socialize him always. If your pet hasn't experienced attending socialization class when he was still young, he can be taught through exposing him to the outside world.
Always engage your dog to socializing activities like taking a walk, roaming around the park or playing. When you take your dog in places outside your house, he can meet other animals and learn from the experience. When taking your dog for a walk, remember to remain calm when another dog comes near your pet. Your dog can read your body language and would think that the new dog ought to be feared of.
Start socializing your dog when it's still a puppy by enrolling him to a socialization class. After few months, you can then enroll him to basic obedience class. These classes are great opportunity for him to get exposed and meet new animals. If your pet is well trained and socialized properly you'll never have a problem when you bring him other places.
