You Have To Protect Yourself When Your Wallet Is Stolen
When you lose your wallet, you are also losing all the other valuable personal data
along with it such as your credit cards, debit cards, ATM, social security number, driver's license etc. But if you are wise enough to apply some tricks, you can avoid the misuse of your credit and debit cards by the stolen person. Don't sign the back of your credit card like most of you do. The signature in the back of your card will easily help the thief to learn and put your signature correctly so that they can make purchases or withdraw your cash from your cards. On the other hand, if you replace the signature by just writing "Photo ID is required", an unauthorized person cannot make use of your credit card without matching the photo. This is a great idea that you should employ so that you need not worry about your cash being drained.
Another thing is to take care of putting the whole account number of yours in the credit card checks. Remember that there may be a crook that can access your complete account number and use it later. So, in order safeguard your account number, you just need to put just a few numbers, like the last four numbers as the company can easily identify your account and you need not have to write the whole number.
Another mistake that most of the people does is writing their full home address on the check. This will enable easy access of your home address to everyone handling your checks. In order to avoid this situation, you are advised to write the office or work address of yours other than the home address. You can also use the address of your post office box if you have one. And most importantly, never give your social security number on your bank checks. This is another big mistake made by most of the people today. This is an easy way for thieves to access your social security number. You should also never provide any person with your complete social security number over the phone. This may be intended to harm you.
Never carry anything like the photo copy of your cards and crucial documents on your wallet if you do not need it often.
