An Exciting Time for Sports in New York and Virginia

While New York and Virginia sports fans have had a few tough seasons in terms of football and basketball, there's no denying that baseball is definitely on the map in both states this summer and fall. HD coverage of the Mets, Yankees and Nationals is going to highlight the menu for any fan of the Grand Old Game. What are the top stories in the area right now? These four developments have to be followed as the summer and fall come along on the East Coast.

1. Can the Yankees repeat? Ho hum, the Yankees are trying to win the World Series once again. You might have that point-of-view if you are on the other side of the fence, but Yankees fans everywhere are seeing the reality of a repeat. Phil Hughes has turned into a dominant force as the 5th starter and Javier Vazquez is also sporting no-hit stuff on various nights of the week. With that kind of pitching and the usual offensive onslaught, the Yankees on the YESHD network can be too good to pass up.

2. Strasburg time. Has any pitcher ever generated such excitement? Stephen Strasburg came out firing in his debut, racking up 14 K's and turning a slumbering baseball park into the center of the universe, for one night at least. Virginia sports fans are bound to stay glued to their TV sets whenever Strasburg takes the mound, and the New York Mets fans have to watch the competition, as the young hurler could push the Nats into contention. Strasburg will look to keep hitting 100 on the radar gun as the summer heats up, which will make everyone in the baseball world hype up every start he makes.

3. A Cinderella story at Citi Field. Speaking of those Mets, how they became an underdog with their high payroll is anyone's guess. At this point it's not worth discussing, as their Cinderella story is already being written in 2010. Can they overcome the dominant Phillies and upstart Atlanta Braves? Well into the season, the Mets are showing a lot of life, forcing New York fans to give them their rightful share of the spotlight. It's not all about the Yankees anymore, as the Mets have given them some competition in the 718 area code.

4. The Lebron James sweepstakes. Where will King James end up? After Kobe Bryant's season ends possibly with another championship the best player in the NBA will still be without a home. Could Lebron do what some analysts expect and take a chance on the Knicks? Every New York fan has dreamed of the day this could happen, and it actually could before it's all said and one. The question is will Lebron believe in the Knicks' core. With David Lee and other players showing marked improvement, it's possible. However, if he looks to Miami or even back to Cleveland, fans on the East Coast will be forced to watch him on opposing teams when tuning in to satellite sports networks.
