Goal Setting Principles
In the realm of goal setting, many people limit their beliefs about their own potential and abilities
. They feel trapped within boundaries, and beneath a low ceiling, that they made all by themselves. The story they privately tell themselves is that they are inferior; that they lack many things such as resources, education, and confidence.
In truth, the way we label ourselves affects the meaning that we give to our lives. However, to soar above such mentally defined limits, it is necessary to break out beyond our familiar limits. If we are constantly afraid of taking a risk and perhaps being lost in a new environment, then we will always tend to stay only with what is familiar to us. Yes, it is basic human nature to seek a sense of security, but how can you ever progress if you don't try new things? Change is always a difficult thing, but it ultimately pays off in terms of growth and forward motion in your life.
Behavioral scientists say that whatever we say, act, and wear reflects the kind of personality we have. In that case, our approach to life's challenges reflects something about ourselves as well. We have to dig deeper within us and change our old habits and attitudes which hinder us from getting to success. We have to terminate negative attitudes such as quitting, self-justification, and playing the blame game.
Blaming others about something that you should be accountable for is wrong because it means that you are failing to take responsibility for the situation. It only shows that you don't know how to manage your responsibilities and you are ultimately trying to make other people do it for you. Hence, if after goal setting, you fail to achieve your desired target, don't play the blame game or cop out in some other such way. Instead, stop and reassess. Realize that you need to know as much as possible about your goal, and the possible challenges that might crop up to stop you, in order for you to solve the problems that come with it and attain the success you thirst for.
If you are making flimsy excuses that could cause you to give up on your goals, then it is critical that you stop doing it. Indeed, set it as a goal in itself that you never let outside circumstances stop you from doing the things that should be done in order for you to achieve your goals.
Another wrong attitude is denial. You must stop denying your mistakes and just start working on them to make them right. There are people who deny the fact that they have quite simply failed to achieve what they set out to do. You must know how to accept your weaknesses or mistakes, and learn from them. That is the only way that you can come back again and ultimately win. Believe in yourself and also believe that you can definitely do it better the next time around. Take chances, calculated well-thought out risks, in accordance with your overall goal plan and prove to yourself (and everybody else too) that you really can do it.
Quitting on moving forward is just like giving up on your goals. We often think that we are stuck on things that limit us from doing what we want. We make excuses like we are too shy, too fat, too old, and too short. When things become very difficult we forget to look within to the spiritual source from which all of our power ultimately derives. Instead of being deterred when we encounter seemingly insurmountable obstacles, we should instead move forward in order to gain more knowledge and experience. Great achievements are always blocked by difficulties, so always remember this and have the courage and motivation to push forward.
Take a good look at your situation now and determine the things that you want to change and leave behind. The gravity of challenges may sometimes pull you down, but always push on forward and never give up on your goal setting.
