Ipv6 Tunneling; A New Method To Decrease The Hassle Of Traffic Redirect
The use and popularity of IPv6 Tunneling protocols has noticed a significant rise in recent years
, especially after people have started experimenting with the same. Tunnelling basically assists in providing a way to use presented IPv4 routing communications to direct traffic from IPv6. The most initial step needed to accomplish a successful tunnelling is making sure that the same is compatible with the existing base of IPv4 routers and hosts.
Tunnelling can be put to a number of uses. Firstly as router to router, where the two routers interconnected through an IPv4 infrastructure can tunnel IPv6 packets between both. The second use could be host to router. Here the IPv6 host can be tunnelled through an intermediary IPv6 router in an IPV6 packet that can be reached through an IPv4 infrastructure. The third use could be host to host, where the IPv6 or IPv4 interconnected by an IPv4 infrastructure are able to tunnel IPv6 packets between both. In this the tunnelling covers the entire path that the packet follows during transition. Another use of tunnelling could be router to host, where the two routers, namely IPv4 or IPv6 can tunnel the IPv6 packets to the end destination that is the host, in this the tunnelling covers only the last part of the end to end way.
The tunnelling techniques are differentiated based on the mechanism on which the node that is encapsulated establishes the node"s address that is present at the end of the tunnel. In above described uses, while in router to router and host to router the IPv6 is finally tunnelled to a router. However in the other two that is router to host or host to host, the IPv6 packet gets tunnelled to the end point or the final target.
While discussing about IPv6 Tunneling, it seems imperative to mention the two major types of tunnels that are present in IPv6. The first is described as automatic tunnel, where the tunnels are configured by using the information of IPv4 address that is embedded in an IPv6, the address of the destination here has information about the address to where the IPv4 would be tunnelled. The second type is configured tunnel; here the configuration is accomplished manually.
