Its Solar So Far

Farming has recently become a very popular activity when it comes to online activities

which are another example of the way we have become very reliant on technology, though in such a format it doesn't help us proper it is merely a form of light entertainment. An area where technology is helping us and the environment too, is solar energy. The popular Spanish coastal resort of Fuengirola is the first place in the Andalucia region to have set up a solar farm. Since August this year (2010) the farm has been in full bloom, so to speak. All of Fuengirola's municipal buildings are now running on clean energy which is a great example to the rest of the world, or at least places that enjoy as much sun.

We all know that in some format solar panel minimise the use of fossil fuels in one way or another, but what are the specifics? By building this solar farm it has saved Fuengirola from emitting a staggering 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. The energy that the farm produces could run 300 homes for a whole year, so just think if every city, town and village was doing this in Spain. I'm not sure if the effects would be as great in countries where the climate isn't as sunny, perhaps in the UK it we would replace a solar farm with wind turbines.

Solar farms aren't cheap, I don't know the exact figure but it will be the government most likely forking out for such a project. The building of such a site requires 3,000 carefully placed solar panels on the roofs f various municipal buildings. This energy saving doesn't just help the environment it actually pays for itself too. The local government will save thousands each year which could very easily go towards various other projects and events going on around Fuengirola. Who knows on your next visit there might be a new attraction in town worth seeing.

Fuengirola's new environmentally healthy outlook will certainly give it an added appeal to tourists, especially those hardcore Earth lovers out there. The sun and overall climate of Fuengirola on Spain's south coast has plenty of attraction to it anyway and it's been a very popular with tourists for some time, but as the resort moves forward and the locals have more money to pump into the town it might not be long before it becomes a major holiday superpower.
