Nfl Tickets - Week 1 Recap
Here are some quick notes on the week one matchups:
Saints 14, Vikings 9: It wasn't the offensive battle we saw in the NFC title game last year, but Drew Brees played well and was able to lead his team to victory. Favre and the Minny receivers need to get more in sync if they're going to be a passing game that will sell NFL tickets.
Texans 34, Colts 24: Arian Foster was a beast in this one, rushing for 231 yards and three touchdowns. He could be exactly what the Houston offense needs. The Colts fell behind early and were forced to abandon the run. Peyton Manning had good stats, but the one stat that really counts didn't go his way.
Dolphins 15, Bills 10: The Dolphins played it safe because they knew they could. Chad Henne was solid, even if unimpressive, and the running game did its job. The Bills struggled on offense, which could become a theme for them this season. C.J. Spiller was completely bottled up.
Bears 19, Lions 14: The Lions should have won this game, and probably would have if not for a suspect call. Matthew Stafford separated his shoulder and will miss several weeks, which could derail the Lions' sleeper status for this season. The Bears played decently on offense, but running the ball was again an issue.
Titans 38, Raiders 13: The Titans looked really good, as Chris Johnson reminded everyone why he's such a beast. Vince Young was efficient, which is all he needs to be, and the defense was strong. The one thing that Oakland can take out of this one is that Darren McFadden played very well in Michael Bush's absence. If he can realize his potential it could help relieve some of the sting left behind by the JaMarcus Russell debacle.
Patriots 38, Bengals 24: The Pats looked explosive in their passing attack and Wes Welker is simply amazing. The Bengals fought back in this one, though, which should help the psyche of Cincy fans heading into Week 2.
Giants 31, Panthers 18: A star is born in Hakeem Nicks? That could be the case after his three-touchdown effort to start the season. The Giants definitely have playoff potential. We could see a quarterback controversy begin to brew in Carolina if Matt Moore doesn't play better than he did against the G-Men, as rookie Jimmy Clausen is waiting in the wings.
Steelers 15, Falcons 9: The Pittsburgh defense looked really good with Troy Palomalu back and Dennis Dixon played well enough at QB. Rashard Mendenhall looked great on that big overtime touchdown run, but they'll need him to be more consistent if they're going to succeed without Big Ben.
Buccaneers 17, Browns 14: The Bucs didn't wow anyone, but they're young and could have a bright future. Jake Delhomme struggled and we could start to hear the Seneca Wallace rumblings sooner rather than later.
Jaguars 24, Broncos 17: David Garrard looked like the 2007 model, which could be huge for the Jags. Both passing games looked surprisingly solid in this one.
Cardinals 17, Rams 13: The Cards didn't look great, but when the opponent has their rookie quarterback throw 55 times, a team usually doesn't have to look great to win.
Packers 27, Eagles 20: Rodgers and company didn't look as in sync as most expected, but the defense was able to hold off Michael Vick enough to take home the win. The Ryan Grant injury hurts. Is there a QB controversy in Philly?
Seahawks 31, 49ers 6: The biggest surprise of the week. Mat Hasselbeck was efficient and Alex Smith could be in trouble. Where was Michael Crabtree?
Redskins 13, Cowboys 7: Another big upset. The Cowboys need to establish the run better; they should have won this game.
Ravens 10, Jets 9: This was an ugly game, but the Baltimore passing game looked much better than New York's. Who is the starting running back for the Jets?
Chiefs 21, Chargers 14: The Chiefs have a lot of young talent and are a team on the rise, while the Chargers seem to be making a habit of starting slowly on an annual basis.
