Passing The Police Tests

For some of us, the idea of spending an eternity stuck behind a desk in some dead end office job sounds like a stint of Sisyphean torture

. A career in the police force is far more likely to be challenging and stimulating and could add that job satisfaction that you feel you are currently lacking. There are, however, one or two points to consider before ditching the nine to five and one of these is passing the police tests.

The police tests are there for a reason: You cannot simply put any old member of the public in charge of keeping us all safe and with such high stakes, the right people must be chosen. The tests are very tight and all stages have to be passed if you are to become a member of the UK police force.

If you apply to become a police officer you will have to go through a number of assessments. Firstly, there are the mathematical and spelling tests. Police officers are required to be very accurate and pay attention to detail as well as prepare evidence for court. For this reason their spelling has to be accurate and they must also demonstrate a good level of mathematical understanding. You can purchase practice tests to ensure you are up to the grade and practice your spelling of the kind of words you will need to know.

There is also a medical assessment to undergo. It is necessary that all officers are not hampered in their duties by a medical complaint that they may have. The medical test details are given and you can find out your chances of passing. You can also speak to a serving police officer if you need any clarification as it is likely that they will have experience of passing police tests.

The physical tests are really quite passable if you are a moderately active and fit person. There is a strength and a stamina section of the test; police officers have to be able to chase criminals whilst wearing body armour and have to be able to restrain criminals. The tests are the same for both male and female recruits and the duties of both policemen and WPCs are exactly the same.

The role play and formal interview is to ensure that each recruit can react in an appropriate way to certain scenarios. They also need to have the right attitude if they are to make a good police officer and the formal interviews go some way to ensuring this. Passing police tests is essential if you are going to become a police officer. We would all be very worried indeed if our safety was entrusted into any old Tom, Dick or Harry and thus this tight procedure is essential. If you are successful then getting out of the office and facing new challenges every day of your career can be its own reward.
