Salzburg Attractions
Salzburg, Austria, is perhaps the best European destination for a glimpse of Europe's past
. The city is split down the middle by the Salzach River, and it is centered around the base of the Hohensalzburg fortress. While many people associate Salzburg with Mozart and The Sound of Music, the city is much more than simply a tourist attraction for music enthusiasts. The city's center extends down both sides of the river, and the sidewalks that parallel the river provide tourists and natives alike with a scenic stroll.
Salzburg is well known for the unique ornate feel that it showcases and the great storybook atmosphere that it has to flaunt over. Though it is quite a beautiful small city lying in the West wing of Austria, it is a very closely knit place and has some of the most incredible experiences to offer to all its tourists and travelers. The picturesque architecture of the city is one of the things that draws tourists back year after year.
Dotted with beautiful springs and gardens, this imposing building was once the summer palace of an Archbishop. This is an excellent picnic spot for family. Lush playground with swings, sidewalks, pristine pools and benches makes this place very attractive. A day in here with children will be a great plan.
This is the heart of the city and is dominated by a statue of the great composer. The statue is considered to bear only a poor resemblance to Mozart and reveals a glaring historical error inasmuch as it portrays him holding a pencil; pencils were not invented until at least twenty years after the time of Mozart's death in 1791.
The brewery provides tours in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and you can arrange tours accompanied with beer and cheese tasting, a combined tour around Salzburg Zoo with a show; "Mein lieber Brausud!", a Guided tour around Stiegl-Brauwelto, Beer tasting and a Gift from the Braushop. They also offer tours such as "A traditional get-together" which is a 3 hour experience of a tour around Stiegl-Brauwelt, Beer tasting, a meal, show, live entertainment and gift from the shop.
Though Salzburg's natural and man-made beauty is well documented, perhaps the best indication of its power to inspire brilliance in the arts is made evident by the vast amount of world-famous individuals who were born in the city. The classical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg and he regularly visited his hometown to revel in its splendor. He and his entire family are buried in a private plot in the city and his many fans visit the site each year to pay homage to his brilliance.
Salzburg's baroque centre is a classified UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and it's easy to see why; the Prince-archbishops who ruled ancient Salzburg built so many grand churches, palaces, mansions and gardens that the city was soon dubbed the Rome of the North.
Shopping in Salzburg is very sophisticated which makes for great window shopping. The streets are lined with ornate hanging signs above each shop. The hanging signs all have icons or figures on them which dates back to the days when people couldn't read. Shoe stores for example have boots on the sign. In fact, in Salzburg it is a law that every merchant must have a wrought iron sign in front of his shop.
