Save Money On Household Bills With These Four Useful Tips
If youre spending too much on household bills
, youre not alone! Many people throw money down the drain without even realising so dont fall into the same trap.
Here are four money-saving tips to try out:
Switch to money-saving light bulbs
According to the Energy Saving Trust,
lighting accounts for eight per cent of a typical households energy bills. As a result, its essential to swap all regular light bulbs for energy-saving alternatives as this will make a significant difference over time. For instance, a compact fluorescent bulb could save your three pounds a year and a 6W LED could save you four pounds a year! This might not seem like much, but every penny counts during these economically unstable times.
Check the efficiency of your boiler
Is your boiler efficient? If not, it might be worth buying an A-rated, high-efficiency condensing boiler instead. Sure this will cost you money to start with, but it could reduce your energy bills in the long run. If you really cant afford to update your heating system at this moment in time, make sure you
arrange an annual boiler servicing with a company like HomeServe. A Gas Safe Register approved engineer will check everythings working properly and will help your equipment run as efficiently as possible.
Turn your heating off
While were on the subject of heating, dont forget to turn it off when you leave the house. Warming an empty house is just like posting five pound notes down the drain so dont do it. If its a little cold outside, try using your temperature controls. Set your cylinder thermostats between 60C and 65C and set your room thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature which should be between 18C and 21C. If your house is overly hot or uncomfortable cold you might need to replace your thermostat or electric programmer.
Save water
Getting water to your taps takes a lot of energy. Therefore its wise to save as much as possible as this will lower your household bills. Take showers instead of baths and replace inefficient shower heads with water efficient alternatives. Whats more, make sure that dishwashers and washing machines are completely full before switching them on and use a sink of water to wash up rather than leaving the tap on.
Hold onto your hard earned cash and have more to spend on the things you enjoy.
