The LG GS500 Cookie Plus Is An Impressively Versatile Handset by:Chris Westley

The LG GS500 Cookie Plus was announced in February 2010

, with an expected release date in March. It features touch screen technology, 3G connectivity and an impressive digital camera.

The handset unit measures 107x52.5.11.5mm and weighs 92.5 grams. It's slim profile and light weight make the phone comfortable to hold in your hand and use whilst on the move. The screen measures 3 inches for a comfortable touch screen experience and features TFT resistive technology. It displays all 256,000 colours with in pixels which are set up at 240x400, meaning the display of on screen content is always bright and clear. An accelerometer sensor senses when the phone has been tilted and rotates the image on screen accordingly.

To customise the phone, MP3 files can be assigned as ringtones, and an included composer allows users to create custom ringtones from scratch. Both of these options work alongside vibration to alert users of incoming calls and messages. Hands free communication is made possible thanks to the inclusion of a speakerphone system and a 3.5mm audio jack.

30 MB of internal memory provides storage space for media files and other data. However, should this not be enough, up to 8 GB is made available by installing a memory card in to the micro SD slot.

Class 12 GPRS and EDGE provide the initial means of network connection. In areas where 3G is available, a HSDPA connection is utilized at speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. Bluetooth is installed as standard which offers a method of file transfer between compatible devices in the same area. To transfer media files and also to back up data such as contacts, the phone can be connected to a computer via a USB (v2.0) connection.

Media files in a range of music and video formats are supported by the devices media player. Music files in MP3, WMA and AAC are supported, along with video file formats in MP4 and H.263. Alternative entertainment features include a stereo FM radio player and a variety of pre-installed games with the option to download extra games if required.

The GS500 Cookie Plus has a built in digital camera boasting 3.15 mega pixels which operate at a pixel resolution of 2048x1536 pixels allowing still images of good quality to be taken. Video can also be shot in QVGQ quality at a rate of 12 frames per second.

Fans of social networking will appreciate the native FaceBook client, whilst professionals will make use of a document viewer which is compatible with office programs.

For the style conscious, a range of colours is available, adding to the appeal of this already functional handset.
