THE PHILOSOPHY OF BEING SELF DRIVEN
We live in an era of dramatic change; where the environment around us is rapidly changing. This change is observed by the people from all walks of life. To cope with the changes around us, we as humans find various ways which sometimes are very useful and at times, the otherwise. We may have faced the difficulties while working to achieve something in our daily life. For example, as a student, one has to go through the same type of activities over a period of time daily; getting up early in the morning because have to catch the class at 08:00 am, although sitting idle in the class but have to be there for the whole semester or year due to the attendance requirements, liable to submit even copied assignments but need to do it on continuous basis so that to manage the grades, and have to spend time with friends in the university after the class, although not willingly, but because they want you to be there in the party. As a manager, has to reach the office on time, although sometimes unwillingly but otherwise there will be a deduction in the salary, have to meet the deadlines, makes one very much stressed but at the same time part of the job, have to attend the training sessions on becoming a happy worker' but in a sad mode.
This phenomenon is not going to be a temporal one, rather a permanent tester. Organizations expect one to be high performer; friends want time to spend with them, and family needs money to meet the living expenses. To keep abreast with these challenges, one needs to be motivated. Generally, there are two sources of motivation, external stimuli and internal stimuli. External sources are the cues which we get from our environment; teacher encouraging the student, friends appreciating the efforts, parents taking care of the kids, and the worker got promoted in any organization. These are although very useful tools to motivate individuals but short term in nature and later on prove to be little effective. The underlying reason is their inability to continue all this on permanent basis. While on the other hand, internal stimuli's, a bit difficult to identify although, but long term in nature. It is about identifying one self, the purpose of being, and consciously setting up direction to move forward.
I always cite example of anybody learning to drive the car. When driving a car the first time, he or she will be very much conscious and traffic around looks like hurdles. But when this conscious driving makes him an expert driver, he can then perform many activities while driving the car; listening to music, talking to friends, and even watching any movie on the LCD screen. Same is the case with us in identifying ourselves. We see so many phenomenons around us but do not observe and figure out the underlying facts. The recipe of self (internally) driven is identifying one's purpose of life. This can only be possible by consciously observe the happenings around you, and finding the non-material facts. For example, while meeting with a friend who has the knowledge as well carrying some accessories with him also, if I will ask myself about the material he has; mobile phone, car, and expensive dress, then, I am looking after the material facts. But, on the other hand, if I will be curious enough to probe as how he became so knowledgeable, then, I am after non-material facts, which will help me in knowing about that person's success.
This conscious observance is assumed to be the most effective tool in identifying oneself. The other source of this is to find a knowledgeable and respected individual, who can guide you to the horizons of success. The question may arise as where and how this type of person can be found? The simple answer is, "be curious and become a student", someone who is restless and aspire to be directed; the only way we can help somebody to explore our inner self. Self identification keeps us on track, where we know our vision; what we want to be and also the mission; why we actually exist. Once we have identified our goal of life, nobody on earth can stop us in reaching the destiny, mostly, because it is known. The external forces will then have a minimal effect on us as we will never be dependent upon someone to come and encourage us. This is the way we can live a happy and successful life as the secret behind it is "identify you and be internally motivated; self driven".
