Vancouver Canucks Tickets - Canucks Top Capitals 3-2

Ryan Kesler scored a goal, Mason Raymond had two goals

, Roberto Luongo made 25 saves, and the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2. Get Vancouver Canucks tickets and see Raymond score the game winner. Kesler recorded Vancouver's first goal and added an assist while playing on a line with Raymond. In the second period, Raymond tied the game 2-all with a nifty move. The forward also scored the game winner on a power play with 6:04 left of regulation. Although Luongo struggled on first period goals by Alexander Semin and Chris Clark, the goaltender made a crucial save on Semin's penalty shot with 5:45 left of the game.

Semin was awarded a penalty shot after he was hauled down by Kevin Bieksa. Luongo kicked out the left pad to turn away Semin's shot, and the Canucks were able to win for the fourth time in five games. Luongo told the press "I was playing the shot the whole way, took as much net away as possible and once he went for the shot I went down right away and was able to get a pad on it." But more impressive was how well Raymond's line played against Alexander Ovechkin. With lots of help from the defense pair of Sami Salo and Willie Mitchell, the Canucks held Ovechkin without a shot through two periods, and without a point for only the sixth time all season.

After the game, Raymond stated that Vancouver tried to capitalize off Washington's mistakes. The left-winger continued to say "We knew if we kept shutting their top lines down we would be heading back the other way." That's exactly how Raymond tied the game with 2:21 remaining in the second period, scoring off a 2-on-1 rush after Luongo made a magnificent save on Mike Green's point blank shot.

Raymond gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead after Washington defenseman Tom Poti was sent to the sin bin to serve a double minor (Poti sat in the penalty box for cross checking his opponent and then tacked on an unsportsmanlike conduct for slamming the door to the penalty box). Capitals goalie Jose Theodore was able to stop Christian Ehrhoff's shot and Kesler on the first rebound, but was down as Raymond flicked the second rebound over the goalie to register his fifth goal in five games.

Washington coach Bruce Boudreau was furious with the call that led to Raymond's game winner. The coach was also not pleased with his team's effort on the power play. The Capitals entered the contest ranked No. 1 in the league on the power play, but failed to score on four chances by Vancouver's 20th-ranked penalty kill. Boudreau said, "Our power play was horrible. We didn't generate anything."

Theodore made 17 saves for Washington, who came in with eight wins in the last 10 games. The Capitals were hoping to become the first team to reach 50 points this season, but they lost two of three on a four-game road trip. The Capitals are a point behind New Jersey and Pittsburgh atop the Eastern Conference.
