Database Management Systems & Business Intelligence
The basis of business intelligence has always been about the analysis and research
on the existing data to review the past and design the future strategy. This is even a proven and effective strategy which saves a considerable chunk of capital, efforts and time which can be used for other fruitful purposes. The analysis of data requires efficient data management so that the central repository of the data i.e. the Database should not look like a messy clog or data heap. This form of data cannot be utilized for analytical purposes as this data is un-managed. So to deploy data for further study, data management is necessary.
Database management system helps in cleaning and refining the available data so that it can be deployed for various practices in business development. DBMSs can be used in business intelligence as:
DBMSs provides a structured format of data which helps expert in decision making. Data analysis becomes easy and so the action plan can be generated according to the pattern analyzed by the experts. Flow of actions can be designed for each event separately thus helping to hit the nail with maximum impact. It requires no human interference or recommendation for input and predicts a qualified decision against it.
DBMSs help decision support systems which further supports human intuition; an essential component of decision making process. A decision support system provides with all the information required for the analysis and in the desired format and is based on human intelligence for effective decision making.
DBMS has given rise to the concept of data mining which further supports various processes of business intelligence for future development. DBMS allows or supports for refining data according to the set or conditions mentioned by the user and mines data from the vast repository. This eases the work of decision maker to purely concentrate on analyzing pattern instead of looking for the appropriate data manually.
Data centralization made possible with DBMS help companies' offices at remote location to maintain data & allows managers to look into the trends and patterns in a more abstracted and location-based manner. This helps to figure out the patterns according to the location and the overall success of a business in an area.
Databases along with
business intelligence tools are frequently used in any organization for knowledge gathering and discovery purposes. The importance of the two can be analyzed by examining the three fundamental tasks of any business analysis program, which are:
gathering the information related to business which was collected over a period of time and to save this information in a more formatted and refined manner for future references.
presenting the collected data in a way desired by the manager so that it can be analyzed for business knowledge, and patterns can be drawn from the data using business intelligence tool.
executing the plan prepared after analyzing the patterns drawn from the data using business intelligence tools.
So we can clearly examine how distinct DBMS and BI may sound but actually these are two closely related elements holding a key responsibility in the process of business development. A perfect balance between the two yields a stabilized and growing business in the long run. On the other hand, mismatch of the two can make the work of the decision-makers difficult and eventually slows down the pace of development.
