Keeping the grass cut too short can actually hinder growth and allow for weeds to germinate, slowly taking over the yard. So, as you can see the length does make a difference, and for those looking for lush grass, the appropriate length should be considered.

Grass Types & Appropriate Heights

There are certainly too many grass types to name each and every one; however the most common ones can be. Grass such as fescue, Saint Augustine and buffalo should never be mowed lower than 2 inches. Bent Grass should be left at about a 1 inch length, while Blue Grama should be 2 1/2 inches long. Grass types such as bent grass need only be about a inch, due to thatch susceptibility.
