"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."
Oscar Wilde (Lady Windermere's Fan)
How has this illness' changed you, personally?
I savour the journey now. Not in theory, but in practice. I cherish every moment now, sitting in an airport lounge, tapping out these answers in my Black Berry. I also have a strong desire to pay forward all the support I received during my struggles and treatment. The push for a cure which comes from survivors and those whose lives have been touched.
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
Albert Einstein
How has your lifestyle changed?
There is this new awareness. I eat with awareness, travel with awareness. It's not been so much about slowing down my lifestyle as making sure every decision I take is aligned with my core values. And when I was faced with my morality, I took the time to write down those values, which I never did before.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
- (1 Corinthians 13:13)"
How have you managed to stay strong?
I do not believe that I am strong as much as I am stubborn. I simply always believed I would over come this obstacle. Also all the support I got, propped me up on the days I wanted just to lie down in a corner.
I slowly grew to believe may be my experience could be useful to others and this desire to share and become a Success Story' would some times keep me going through my darkest moments.
"The world suffers a lot. Not because of the violence of bad people,
But because of the silence of good people!"- Napoleon
What is your criteria when you choose your work?
Choosing projects now is about my core values and whether they line up together. There is a fun factor, there is useful factor and there is a balance factor.
I wrote on the door of my heart, "Please do not enter in"
Love came smiling and said: "Sorry I am an illiterate".- Michael Paul
Can you tell me about your learning's from the experience, during this time of realisation?
First know that you are perfect enough, the key to happiness is good health with a short memory, do not delay the possibility to get joy out of small things, give give and give to those you love and those you are indifferent towards and those you dislike. Write down your core values and make sure everything you do is aligned to them. Schedule in private, time for yourself and your relationships because that becomes your commitment towards yourself and the people around yourself.
"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death." - Robert Fulghum
