Leadership Lessons from World Cup Final

I am amazed about the kind of leadership MS Dhoni exhibited in the final of World Cup 2011. He exhibited all the qualities required for a world class leader. Some of the highlights

Took COURAGEOUS TOUGH decisions to make some changes in the playing squad, knowing that had India lost the match, he could have been crucified for that.

When India lost two key wickets, and the situation was stressful, he decided to TAKE THE PRESSURE on his shoulders rather than pushing some one else. Had he failed to perform at that level, the entire world could have thrown stones at him. He TOOK THE RISK.

In front of the roaring crowd he maintained PATIENCE with the END IN MIND, though he had to change his normal style of batting for that. He KEPT his COOL through out the match.

He was NOT BOTHERED ABOUT HIS PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT, as his focus was only on the team goal. Even after scoring a fabulous half century, he never exhibited much of excitement

Though he was going through some physical challenge and had enough reasons to retire and get back later in the match, he was DETERMINED to stay there and decided to ignore the PHYSICAL PAIN

He GAVE THE BEST to the crowd who have been cheering for the team for almost 8 hours, by striking a classic sixer to win the match

When the team was celebrating and running all around the ground, we could see him WALKING BEHIND THE TEAM, pushing all his team members to the front to celebrate

When everyone was giving credit to Sachin, it never affected his EGO and in fact he was encouraging everyone to lift Sachin upon the shoulders

He lifted the Dream Cup, handed over to the team and NEVER WANTED TO BE IN THE FRONT. In the pictures you can see him in the back!

In short, he exhibited all the principles of leadership: Courage, Ready to take the pressure, Patience, Tough Decisions, Act with an End in Mind, Team achievement more important than personal gains, Determination, No ego, Giving the credit to the team
