Starcraft 2 Strategy - Zerg Builds

In this guide we will look at the standard Zerg build many top Zerg players on Battlenet use right now

. This build can change depending what your opponent is doing and some other factors but it should give you an excellent starting point.

This strategy is called the 14 pool build. You can start by building your Drones up to 9 population followed by an Overlord. While the Overlord is being built you can start another Drone and by the time the Overlord finishes you can build four more Drones. You can now start building your Spawning Pool. That is why this build is called a 14 pool, you get to 14 population then you build your Spawning Pool. Once your Spawning Pool is started you should start building an Extractor and start harvesting gas. While your Spawning Pool is finishing, continue building Drones. When your pool is done start building a Queen and another Overlord.

From this point onwards it depends what you have in mind. If you think you should go Zerglings start researching Metabolic Boost at your Spawning Pool and build a few more Drones followed by lots of Zerglings. If you think you might be in for a little bit longer game you should go Roaches or Hydralisks. You can build a Roach Warren, get a few more Drones, and build Roaches while you upgrade to a Lair for Hydralisks. Yet another option is expand, this is one of the most popular options. Send a Drone out to start building a new Hatchery while you alternate between building Drones and Zerglings until your new Hatchery is finished. Keep an eye out for early attacks like Reaper rushes or early Zealot pushes. Many Protoss and Terran players like to try and rush to air to take advantage of Zergs weak anti-air. I recommend you get an Evolution Chamber and get a few Spore Crawlers done to stop any early air push. Remember to keep scouting as much as you can so you know what your opponent is going. The key to wining as Zerg is countering your enemies build.
