For most, avoiding acid reflux is easy. Lifestyle choices and mild medication can help control the main causes of acid reflux which are environmental. Understanding what is causing your acid reflux will help you deal with this problem better. The best way to do this is to visit your doctor and go through a physical exam. By looking at your physical fitness and learning about some of your lifestyle choices, your doctor will be able to pinpoint what is causing your acid reflux. Here are some of the causes of acid reflux.
Is food enjoyable to you? Most people do! Just about everyone enjoys eating a good meal. You may not realize you are eating too much of a good meal. We all do this from time to time. After we have done this and enjoyed that meal so much we often feel as if our chest is going to explode. This is usually diagnosed as heartburn. In these times, your heartburn is caused because of your overeating too quickly and your stomach couldnt digest it fast enough. If the stomach doesn't have adequate space for your dinner and this acid it must release it wherever it can which is usually the esophagus. Not eating so much all at once will help you avoid this.
Have you made exercise a priority? If you don't get enough exercise you are more prone to acid reflux attacks but careful not to do certain activities too strenuously. Your body cannot function fully without regular exercise. This leads to an inability for the body to properly process the stomach acid, causing an acid reflux attack. Doing little exercises every day will help fend off acid reflux. The exercise doesn't need to be high intensity; a brisk walk will help.
How much stress are you under? Stress is a big cause of acid production in the stomach. It is a common occurrence for this condition to cause ulcers too. On occassion your body will react to your stress by causing heartburn instead of ulcers. Once in a while the heartburn is a pre-cursor to the ulcer. You can combat this by reducing your stress levels. You may benefit from calming techniques. Find a time each day to just relax even if only for a few moments. Acid reflux is an extremely uncomfortable condition. This disorder may not stop you from doing what you'd ordinarily do, but it can prevent you from enjoying many things if you're in pain. When your symptoms are bad, you aren't going to feel like doing much of anything. Thankfully you can do quite a lot to cut down on the acid reflux causes in your life. The causes discussed above apply to many cases.
